The State Attorney’s Office has completed the review of the investigation into the officer
involved shooting, injuring Belay Berhanu W Mariam, by a Fort Myers Police Officer. The
shooting occurred on December 20, 2019 as the officer was working as part of the U.S. Marshals
Fugitive Task Force.
The action of the officer involved in this incident was found to be a legally justifiable use of
force.
