Perjury Sentence

Today former Hendry County Deputy Germain Garcia pled guilty to the charge of Perjury in an Official Proceeding, a third degree felony.

He was placed on 36 months of state probation and required to permanently relinquish his certification as a law enforcement officer. He must also pay a $500 fine. Garcia is also required, as a condition of the sentence, to testify truthfully against Antonio Martinez. Martinez is a Hendry County-based bondsman and the defendant in a related perjury case.

The charge stemmed from a 2017 case in which they provided false testimony under oath in a deposition. Garcia was terminated from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office upon charges being filed against him. The case was handled by Assistant State Attorneys Anthony Kunasek and Abe Thornburg.
