Justin Richardson, 39, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for Grand Theft While Wearing a Mask or Disguise, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Paraphernalia. He was found guilty in December at trial in Charlotte County. He was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender.
In May 2018 Richardson stole nearly $1,000 worth of electronic items from a Walmart in Englewood by hiding them under clothes in a shopping cart. He also stole an outdoor grill. The defendant used a head scarf to conceal his identity as it covered a very large and distinctive tattoo on the back of his head. A deputy with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office still recognized the defendant in the store’s surveillance video due to a tattoo with a girl’s name and unique design on his cheek.
The defendant was found in a nearby motel room with some of the stolen items as well as methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. A co-defendant, Sara Greus, pled no contest in her case to Grand Theft and Possession of a Controlled Substance and was previously sentenced.
Assistant State Attorneys Scott Patterson and Caitlin Sorenson prosecuted the cases.
