Prison Sentence in Aggravated Assault Case

Rodney Andrew Thurman, 47, of Fort Myers, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced, to 5 years in prison for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 5 years in prison for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The prison sentence will be followed by one year of probation. He was sentenced as a prison releasee reoffender. The charges are to run concurrently.

In February of this year, the defendant was under the influence of narcotics and got into a verbal dispute with two relatives over money. The victims left the house to allow the defendant time to calm down. When they returned, the defendant brandished a firearm and made verbal threats.

Law enforcement was contacted and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Thurman then fled on foot and threw the gun over a fence to an adjoining property. Deputies caught
him and took him into custody. They also recovered the weapon. 

Assistant State Attorney Robert Rodriguez prosecuted the case.
