Prison Sentence in Aggravated Battery Case

Jamal Anthony Soto has been adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 30 years in prison for Aggravated Battery on a Person 65 or Older. He was also sentenced to 5 years in
prison for Battery on a Person 65 or Older. The sentences are to run concurrent. The defendant was convicted in December following a trial in Lee County.

Assistant State Attorney Thomas Guthrie and Assistant State Attorney Christine Cummins prosecuted the case.

The crime happened on July 22, 2022. The two victims were attacked at an apartment complex, in the middle of the afternoon.

A person who happened to be near, contacted the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement swiftly responded. Deputies were able to locate the defendant and arrest him, while he was still in the area.
