Prison Sentence in Deadly Traffic Crash

Courtney Danielle Gainey was sentenced to 30 years in prison today, after pleading guilty in a case involving a hit and run crash that killed a 14-year-old girl. Gainey, 25, of Fort Myers,
was adjudicated guilty of Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death which is a First-Degree Felony. She also had her driver’s license suspended for three years.

The defendant pled straight to the court, giving up her right to a trial, for direct sentencing by the Judge. This is not a plea agreement.

The crime happened on January 11, 2020 in North Fort Myers. Gainey hit the victim with her car in the Suncoast Estates community and then fled the scene. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.

Assistant State Attorney Kelly Worcester led the prosecution.
