Prison Sentence in Stabbing Case

This afternoon, Wilmar Fernandez Cucul Gomez, 21, of Bonita Springs, was sentenced to 6 years in prison followed by 3 years of probation, for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
He was convicted following a Lee County trial in July.

In September 2020, two brothers were sitting on their porch in Bonita Springs drinking beer. The defendant, a stranger to the men, walked up to the porch and asked for a beer. One man got up and said no. As he turned away, the defendant went onto the porch and stabbed him. The victim was able to pin the defendant onto the ground while his brother called 911. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded and deputies arrested Gomez. The victim survived the stabbing.

Assistant State Attorney Nicholas Alberto prosecuted the case.
