Corey Matthew Sherman, 31, of Fort Myers, was adjudicated guilty of Vehicular Homicide and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The defendant made a plea to the court. This is not a plea agreement. Each defendant can give up their right to a jury trial and plea directly to the court for sentencing. He faced a maximum of 15 years in prison.
Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano, of the State Attorney’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case.
The crash happened on January 27, 2024, in Estero, on Via Coconut Point. The defendant had been speeding, going more than 120 miles per hour, triple the posted 40 mph speed limit. He then crashed into another car killing the driver.
The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
