Prison Sentence for Attempted Murder

This afternoon, Katrina Mary Drakes, of Lehigh Acres, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison for Attempted First Degree Murder. She was found guilty in August following a trial in Lee County.

In April 2018, Drakes shot a man outside of an apartment complex in Fort Myers. The defendant was waiting in her SUV, for the victim to arrive home. As the victim drove through the gates of the complex, she stepped out of her vehicle and shot him once in the chest. The victim survived the shooting.

The Fort Myers Police Department investigated the crime. The defendant fled the scene and was apprehended at her home in Lehigh Acres by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, several days after the
shooting.

Assistant State Attorney Leena Marcos and Assistant State Attorney John Evan Humphreville prosecuted the case.
