Second Degree Murder Sentence

Today, Jeffrey Patrick Mulligan, 34, was sentenced to 23 years in prison for the killing of his father, Patrick Mulligan.

In April 2017 Jeffrey Mulligan beat his father with his fists in the Port Charlotte home in which they were staying.

Jeffrey Mulligan’s sister and her boyfriend walked into the house while Jeffrey Mulligan was still beating and smashing his father’s head into the floor. They stated the Patrick Mulligan appeared unconscious at that time. The boyfriend called 911.

Responding deputies found Jeffrey Mulligan covered in blood, attempting to clean the floors with a mop. They found Patrick Mulligan in the bathroom between the toilet and the bathtub where he was pronounced dead.

Jeffrey Mulligan admitted that he had beaten his father and continued saying that he was sorry. He claimed he was just beating his father and had no intent to kill him.

Jeffrey Mulligan entered a plea of no contest to a charge of Second Degree Murder and was sentenced to 23 years as recommended within the plea agreement that he entered into with the State of Florida.

Assistant State Attorney Scott Patterson and Assistant State Attorney Dan Feinberg, of our Homicide Unit, handled the case.
