This morning, Michael Wasko, 47, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison, for Second Degree Murder. He was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for one
count of Grand Theft Auto. The sentences are to run concurrent.
Wasko was homeless and moved in with the victim, an elderly man, in 2021. The man had been reported missing and was found by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deceased, in a closet in his Fort Myers home. The defendant murdered the victim and then fled in the victim’s car to Georgia. He was apprehended and extradited back to Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner, of the State Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit, and Assistant State Attorney Erin Hughes, prosecuted the case.
