Sentenced to Prison for Kidnapping and First Degree Sexual Battery

Today Anthony Smith, 44, of North Fort Myers, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for one count of Kidnapping and 15 years in prison for one count of First Degree Sexual Battery. The sentences are to be served concurrently. His prison time will be followed by 15 years of sex offender probation. Smith is also designated as a Lifetime Sexual Predator.

The crimes happened in 2017 when Smith met a woman on a website through personal ads. The defendant used a vacated mobile home in North Fort Myers, pretending it was his residence. It was empty with no furnishings. Smith walked the victim inside and grabbed her. He threatened to physically injure her then robbed her and forced a sexual act on her.

A second victim had the same thing happen but before Smith could sexually attack her she jumped out a window and called 911. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case and were able to develop a sketch of the subject and determine his location. The victims identified the defendant in a photo lineup.

Smith pleaded guilty to the crimes as part of a plea agreement. Assistant State Attorney Michael Colombo Jr. handled the case.
