Sentencing for the Murder of a Taxi Driver

Ricky Ligonde, 21, was sentenced to twenty years in prison followed by one year of probation this morning in a Lee County courtroom after pleading guilty to one count of Second Degree Murder with a Firearm and one count of Robbery with a Firearm as a Principal. Ligonde was one of three indicted by a Lee County Grand Jury in May 2018 for the murder of a 46 year old taxi driver in Lehigh Acres. He was shot to death while in his car.

Ligonde was the driver of the get-away vehicle following the crime. Ligonde cooperated with law enforcement after he was brought into custody. He also agreed to testify truthfully against both co-defendants, Epimenio Leal and Angel David Arellano, as part of his plea agreement. Leal and Arellano have pre-trial conference hearings scheduled for May 8th.

Assistant State Attorneys Andreas Gardiner of our Homicide Unit and Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Justham are handling the cases.
