Two Life Sentences for Crimes Against a Child

Michael Wilkins, 34, of Cape Coral, was sentenced to two life sentences after being found guilty
of two counts of Sexual Battery on a Child Less Than 12 Years of Age. He was also sentenced to
30 years in prison for one count of Lewd or Lascivious Battery. Wilkins was also designated a
Prison Releasee Re-offender and a Habitual Felony Offender.

The guilty verdict came following a three day trial in Lee County in March.

The victim reported the crime of sexual abuse in December 2017 to her daycare teacher who then
reported the abuse to the Florida Department of Children and Families. It was found that Wilkins
repeatedly sexually abused the victim.

Assistant State Attorney Heather Fly handled the case.
