Jamaine Alexander Washington was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 30 years in prison for Vehicular Homicide as a Habitual Felony Offender (HFO). The maximum for that charge is 15 years but with the HFO status, which the State asked for, it increases the potential penalty. The State also asked for the 30-year sentence.
The defendant was given credit time served for Driving While License Suspended and Perjury When Not in an Official Proceeding. He was convicted in December, following a two-day trial in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney Martin Stark, of the State Attorney’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit, prosecuted the case.
The crime happened in February 2024, on the Caloosahatchee Bridge in Fort Myers. The defendant was speeding in a car and rear-ended a man on a motorcycle. The victim died. The defendant claimed he was not driving the car.
The Fort Myers Police Department investigated the case which led to the identification of the defendant as the driver.
