The State Attorney’s Office has completed the review of the citizen involved shooting incident that occurred on November 14, 2016. A citizen shot and killed Edward Strother on the southbound Exit 123 ramp of Interstate 75 and Corkscrew Road in Estero. The citizen was coming to the defense of Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Dean Bardes.
Our agency review is closed and no further action action shall be taken by this office based upon the facts presented by this investigation and the applicable law.
The citizen, Ashad Russell, has requested to remain out of the public eye. We would ask that you respect his privacy. His name has to be released as it is public record under Florida Statute 119.
