Demetrius Nugent, 32, was found guilty as charged by a jury last night in Lee County. The verdict came in around 9 p.m. Nugent was convicted of Trafficking in Oxycodone (14 grams or more), Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Paraphernalia.
The crime happened in May 2016 in Fort Myers when Nugent was driving a vehicle that deputies felt was suspicious. During a traffic stop, a K-9 deputy alerted to the vehicle and officers found 120 pills of Oxycodone, more than $1,300 in cash, and 15 Alprazolam pills.
Assistant State Attorneys Christine Cummins and Stephen Dommerich handled the case. Sentencing is scheduled for July 10th. Nugent faces up to 35 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the trafficking count.
