DUI Manslaughter Sentence

Rene Miles, 42, will spend the next 20 years in prison after being sentenced this afternoon in Collier County. He received the maximum of 15 years for one count of DUI Manslaughter and 5 years for DUI Serious Bodily Injury. He also received one year each for two counts of DUI with Injury to Person which will run concurrent to the other charges. Miles also had his driver’s license permanently revoked.

In June, a jury convicted Miles for the December 2015 crash in Collier County that killed James “Cecil” Riner II, injured Riner’s wife and two others. After the crash Miles did not call 911 or render aid. He left the scene and told law enforcement he saw the crash happen but did not immediately admit he had been involved.

Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano of our Homicide Unit and Assistant State Attorney Nicole Mirra prosecuted the case.
