Lois Riess: Case Procedure

Due to the volume of requests for updates on the case involving defendant Lois Riess, case #18-000163CF, we are providing these details on the procedural aspects of the case.

Today there was a hearing on the motion for pretrial detention filed by our office on the case involving the defendant. The State Attorney’s Office was seeking to have the court hold the defendant without bond pending her trial.

A hearing on a motion for pretrial detention is an evidentiary hearing where the request for a no bond hold is based on several elements including the crime being a dangerous crime as defined by statute and facts indicating a disregard for the safety of the community.

Today the defense counsel for Riess waived her appearance and right to a pretrial detention hearing and stipulated that she remain in custody. The judge accepted the stipulation and Riess remains in custody without bond.

The next court date for Riess is her arraignment which is scheduled for May 29th.
