Procedural Update for State v. Jose Bonilla (Zombicon Shooting)

Due to the volume of Chapter 119 requests for case #18-000093CF State v. Jose Bonilla, this is a procedural update on the case.

Today a status hearing was held in Lee County. The State Attorney’s Office filed an amended information adding a charge of Possession of a Firearm by an Adjudicated Delinquent. Judge Porter held the new arraignment on that charge during the status hearing.

Bonilla, 24, pled not guilty to the new charge and re-entered his plea of not guilty to the original charges of one count of Second Degree Murder, five counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and one count of Tampering with Evidence.

Judge Porter also granted the State’s motion to have the defendant fingerprinted since he originally refused. The defendant was fingerprinted in open court.

Bonilla’s trial is scheduled to begin on April 22nd. State Attorney Amira Fox, Assistant State Attorney Dan Feinberg of our Homicide Unit and Assistant State Attorney Tyler Lovejoy are prosecuting the case.
